Open Multisim Live: Simulate Your Display Logic ↗Build your gate-level design in Multisim Live with three switches (X, Y, Z), your segment logic, and the seven-segment display. Step the switches through all eight combinations and confirm each character before exporting the .msjs file for upload.
Check before returning
- • All eight XYZ combinations display the expected character
- • Positions 010 and 101 both show a dash (segment g only)
- • Exported .msjs file grades cleanly against your assigned value
Work for this stage
- • Multisim Live Simulation Upload (.msjs)

Build and Verify the Display
build
Components: breadboard, common-cathode 7-segment display, 7400/7402/7432/7408/7404 logic chips, seven 220Ω current-limiting resistors, three SPST switches for X/Y/Z, and jumper wires. The resistor value comes from Ohm’s law: (5V − 2V) / 15mA = 200Ω, rounded up to 220Ω. Build order: power the rails, wire the three input switches, implement each segment’s simplified expression in gates, add the 220Ω resistor in series with each segment, connect segments a–g, then test all eight positions by counting XYZ from 000 to 111 and verifying each character of your assigned MM-DD-YY code.External tool
Open Tinkercad Circuits: Breadboard the Display ↗Lay out the breadboard build in Tinkercad Circuits: three SPST switches, your logic chips, seven 220Ω resistors, and the common-cathode display. Verify all eight positions in the simulator, then export the .brd file for upload.
Check before returning
- • Display shows the correct character at every XYZ count
- • Every segment line includes a 220Ω current-limiting resistor
- • Exported .brd file grades cleanly against your assigned value
